{"id":100,"date":"2014-03-17T04:56:54","date_gmt":"2014-03-17T04:56:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/winseattle.org\/?p=100"},"modified":"2014-03-23T15:18:17","modified_gmt":"2014-03-23T15:18:17","slug":"dancing-to-rebuild","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/winseattle.org\/?p=100","title":{"rendered":"Dancing to Rebuild"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_101\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"max-width: 300px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/20140316_032000567_iOS.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-101 \" title=\"Emcees Emily and Rosemarie did a spectacular job!\" alt=\"20140316_032000567_iOS\" src=\"https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/20140316_032000567_iOS-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/20140316_032000567_iOS-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/20140316_032000567_iOS-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The desserts in the foreground were on full display all evening, motivating guests to put more money into the dessert dash envelopes to get first dibs on their favorite cake.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Saturday, March 15, the community of Word International Ministries in Seattle put together a dinner dance fund raiser, dubbed <strong>Rhythm of the Night &#8211; \u00a0Dance to Heal<\/strong>, to benefit the rebuilding efforts in the Tacloban, Leyte outskirts. \u00a0 Most everyone by now has heard of the devastation that typhoon <strong>Haiyan<\/strong> brought upon the Central region of the Philippines back in November. \u00a0Much of the news focused on the rescue and disaster relief efforts given by the international community. \u00a0But after 4 months, news of the disaster has all but disappeared from most of the world&#8217;s radar, even as the people of Leyte are just starting to rebuild from the ashes. \u00a0And while the big cities receive lots of aid, the outskirts receive little to no help. It is in this task that WinSeattle has focused its efforts on. \u00a0WIN centers in the outskirts of Leyte have been transformed into community centers, aid distribution centers and temporary shelters for all and funds raised in this activity will go towards assisting in those areas.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_108\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"max-width: 296px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rhythm-Night-418.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-108 \" alt=\"PV posing\" src=\"https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rhythm-Night-418-296x300.jpg\" width=\"296\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rhythm-Night-418-296x300.jpg 296w, https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rhythm-Night-418-1010x1024.jpg 1010w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">PV poses for the donation photo booth &#8211; guests were welcome to use the booth as long for donations<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Tickets<\/strong> to the dinner\/dance were pre-sold by members to their friends and families. \u00a0Even before the evening began, proceeds from ticket \u00a0sales and direct donations from generous patrons had already made a difference. \u00a0But there was more fund raising to be done. \u00a0Greeting the guests at the lobby was a <strong>photo booth<\/strong> where they had the option to get professional quality pictures taken for the price of a donation to the cause. \u00a0Inside, the evening began with a sumptuous <strong>buffet\u00a0dinner<\/strong> &#8211; the best in Filipino cuisine. \u00a0While dining, guests also purchased <strong>raffle<\/strong> tickets for prizes \u00a0ranging from dinner gift cards to vacation getaways.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_109\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"max-width: 300px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rhythm-Night-269.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-109\" alt=\"Maria and guest\" src=\"https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rhythm-Night-269-300x229.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"229\" srcset=\"https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rhythm-Night-269-300x229.jpg 300w, https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rhythm-Night-269-1024x781.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Maria, figuring out the raffle winning ticket with one of our guests.\u00a0 Several went home with Jamba Juice 2-for-1 gift cards and other bigger prizes (like a weekend getaway at a resort).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They also started building up for the Dessert Dash (a game where guests place donations inside an envelope, one for each table; later on the tables are ranked against each other and the top tables get first dibs on the collection of desserts already displayed). \u00a0After dinner, Pastor Vino made a short presentation to describe the cause and the progress that Word International Ministries was already making in the rebuilding efforts. \u00a0He issued a <strong>challenge<\/strong> to everyone to keep themselves involved in the efforts still going on so that the people of Leyte are not forgotten.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_107\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"max-width: 300px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rhythm-Night-298.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-107 \" alt=\"Dancing \" src=\"https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rhythm-Night-298-300x137.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"137\" srcset=\"https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rhythm-Night-298-300x137.jpg 300w, https:\/\/winseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Rhythm-Night-298-1024x470.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Swinging the night away after the dessert dash!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As the Dessert Dash got underway, the excitement of sinking their teeth into their favorite sweets overtook the room and by the time it was over, each table had grabbed at least one of the 19 cakes. \u00a0To burn off all that sugar, <strong>dancing<\/strong> quickly followed and went on until the end of the evening. \u00a0Everyone swung to the beat of all types of music from ballroom to line dances to old classics and current hits.
