WAITING: our Common Ache<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

24 <\/sup><\/em><\/strong>I say to myself, \u201cThe <\/em>Lord<\/em> is my portion;<\/em> therefore I will wait for him.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

25 <\/sup><\/em><\/strong>The <\/em>Lord<\/em> is good to those whose hope is in him,<\/em> to the one who seeks him;
26 <\/sup><\/strong>it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lamentations 3:24-26<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christmas is a celebration most people in the world are familiar with. The \u201cAdvent Season<\/em>\u201d, in contrast, is a less familiar and more often taken-for-granted time of the Christian year. Advent refers to the weeks leading up to Christmas Day – a time of expectancy and preparation for the celebration of Jesus\u2019 birth. For four Sundays before Christmas, we get to capture both the longing and the hope for the coming of our Savior! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We all experience all sorts of waiting<\/em> \u2026 there\u2019s waiting in line at the DMV; there\u2019s waiting behind a dozen people with full shopping carts at the check-out line; there\u2019s waiting for holiday traffic… then there\u2019s waiting in anxiety for test results from the doctor; there\u2019s waiting for your teenager to come home after curfew; or waiting for news regarding layoffs at work… All those kinds of waiting are awkward and often irksome!… But then, there\u2019s \u201cADVENT WAITING<\/em>\u201d too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Advent Waiting<\/em> is waiting with joyful anticipation despite current adversity\u2026 it is waiting with hope \u2013 living hope<\/em> \u2013 that Jesus offers relief for NOW<\/strong> without taking away the glory of WHAT IS TO COME! <\/strong>Advent Waiting is rejoicing \u201cNOW\u201d while hoping for the \u201cNOT YET\u201d<\/em>\u2026 it empowers us to look forward while delighting in the present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St. Paul talks about advent waiting this way: \u201cFor in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it\u201d<\/em> (Rom 8:24-25). The advantage we have is the knowledge and assurance that Jesus is at the end of all this waiting \u2013 what a reward we have in Him!<\/em><\/strong> He is the ultimate prize and the motivation for waiting. He is the author and finisher of Advent and the fulfillment of the hopes and joys of Christmas!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
