Who Holds the Key to Your Heart?
He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in Heaven. Then come, follow Me.” (Luke 18:22)
“Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life? The rich young ruler came to Jesus with this question, resulting in Jesus’ response in our verse above.
Jesus understood this young Jewish checklist-mindset… He first names some of the 10 Commandments… a list that the young ruler felt he had kept well. But then Jesus adds: “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor…”
We might think that Jesus was simply talking about money or addressing wealthy folks who have money… But the words in this conversation are for every single one of us! The core issue Jesus was getting at is this: SURRENDER.Therefore, the crucial question should be: Who holds the key to your heart? It’s not in checking every box of some heavenly “to-do list” or performing perfectly in your ethics course – it’s having a fully surrendered heart that ultimately matters to Jesus.
“Jesus, today I am handing You the key to my heart. You are not just my Savior – You are my Lord! Be in control of everything in my life. I want to follow You and please You in everything I do. In Your Name, I pray – Amen.”
Have a great week ahead!
