Wasted Pain
“Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that
the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result,
so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
James 1:2-4
The “unfairness” of life and its troubles are typically felt when God, in His sovereignty, chooses to deepen your maturity through trials. We know that shallow faith will not suffice when conditions threaten you and what you treasure the most. This should not surprise us anymore.
Ideally, through your dilemma, your faith in God deepens. It’s true that our growth & maturity may be greatest when we are hurting the most. We want to get to the point where we can say “Before this trial, I might have told you what I believe about Christ… Today, I can tell you what I know from firsthand experience!” Trials force us to move beyond a superficial knowledge of Jesus into a deep and meaningful walk with Him!
Your pain has purpose – it has and gives meaning! It’s not just random happenstance and it isn’t a surprise to God! God loves His children more than we could possibly understand. So in the darkness of your pain and in the depth of your agony, ask for His grace and ask for insight – in humility, ask God to give you even just a glimpse of His plan and to refresh your faith.
Don’t waste your pain by being regretful and resentful. Let God do His work and bring it
to its intended completion and expected fruitfulness.
Have a great week ahead!
