A missionary pastor ministering in the mountains of Central Asia was asked by a Christian
magazine for an article on missions. He was asked “Do you like this sort of work?”. His reply
shocked the interviewer “Do I like this sort of thing??… No! My wife and I do not like the mud and
the heat and the humidity… we grew up in North America! We do not like crawling through cow
manure to get to shanties in the mud – BUT, is a Christian not to do anything he does not like??
Lord have mercy! Liking or disliking has nothing to do with it! We have a commission from the
Most High – His love compels us!”

If it were just an option, you can take it or leave it; if it were simple advice, you can follow it or
you can disregard it – but it’s neither of those – it’s a command! So your choice is to obey or to
disobey! Making disciples, sharing the Gospel, baptizing and teaching in the Name of Jesus… not
suggestions but part of Christ’s commission. His love should compel us and motivate us!

Here’s another missionary story: A one-legged school teacher from Scotland came to J. Hudson
Taylor to offer himself for missionary service in China. “With only one leg, why do you think of
going as a missionary?” asked Taylor. “Because I do not see those with two legs going,” replied
George Scott. He was accepted. (Pillar of Fire, January, 1983)

On our 25th year as a church, let’s continue to be compelled by His Love and heed His Call!
