“Backsliding” – an Unexamined Life
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you – unless, of course, you fail the test? 2 Cor. 13:5

Remember wise old King Solomon? He began his reign as a faithful servant of God. He prayed an unselfish prayer for wisdom and God answered his request but also gave him wealth and power to go with that wisdom! (1 Kings 3:10-14) But over the years, Solomon made unholy alliances with
foreign nations and married daughters of pagan kings then eventually allowed them to build altars to their false gods! These compromises influenced Solomon and he drifted away from his love and devotion to the one true God!

What happened to Solomon also happened to some people that Paul warned the Romans about: “though they knew God, …their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools (Rom. 1:21-22). They “backslid!”

It’s a real thing! And, it can happen to real believers – if they don’t watch out! Let’s heed the warning and not allow our hearts to be hardened by: 1- strengthening our inner man, 2- reading His Word, 3- persevering in prayer, 4- prioritizing fellowship, 5- sharing our faith and 6- growing deeper in our love and worship for Jesus! Let’s ask the Holy Spirit to keep us at the center of His will and supply us the strength to live a dynamic and continuously growing Christ-centered life… with His help and inspiration, we will “pass the test”… no turning back!

God bless you! Have a great week ahead.
