Pastor’s Corner WIN-Seattle March 2020 “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5 NIV It was during one of the Sundays in November of 2016 that I shared a message entitled “Love is not Rude”. I felt, at that time, that we (the church) needed a strong reminder to be mindful of our Christian witness during a very divisive and vitriolic election period – lest we contribute to our own decline and irrelevance! This year, 2020, we enter another round of the ‘election brouhaha’… maybe a reminder towards Christ-like meekness will be both appropriate and timely. The word “meekness” (“mansuetus” in Latin; “prautes” inRead More →

We get EASILY DISTRACTED. Whether by social media (and the gadgets that facilitate them!), by the latest fads, fashion and trends, by pop culture and entertainment, or even by churchy stuff – the point is – our attention spans have shortened while the demands for our environment have multiplied exponentially! The result? Overstimulated, hyperactive, inattentive, restless and impulsive members of society… clinicians even have a label and medication for it! Followers of Christ who are distracted DO NOT GROW SPIRITUALLY. Notice, I said “followers of Christ”, this means that someone could be genuinely born-again and in a personal relationship with Jesus BUT that relationship isRead More →

This year’s Vacation Bible School was simply “weird”.  Our theme was Weird Animals VBS – where we learned that Jesus’ love is one-of-a-kind.  We met some of the weird animals that God created and learned that even though we’re left-out or different, even when there are things going on around us that we don’t understand, even though we do wrong and when we’re afraid—Jesus loves us! Jesus’ love is so great, so powerful, so boundless and everlasting that we can rest assured that no matter what happens and whatever comes our way – Jesus’ love will always be there for us. For 5 days weRead More →

On July 13th, Sacajawea Park in Federal Way served as the venue for this year’s first WIN Summer Sportsfest.  Our Youth Ministry organized the softball and tennis games.  We started the games late because a lot of folks were watching the World Cup football championship onscreen between Argentina and Germany (or, at least, the first half!) Softball players were divided into two mixed teams (involving everyone – young, old, man or woman).  Three innings was enough to determine a winner. For tennis, all the games were doubles games and pairings were voluntary. We can’t wait for the Summer Sportsfest Part 2! by Serena DawaRead More →

Mother’s Day (May 11) and Father’s Day (June 15) in WIN-Seattle were unforgettable!  All the Moms and Dads were honored with home made gifts and special numbers as both days were dedicated to them and especially to the Lord in thanksgiving for all the mothers and fathers in the church. Roses, chocolates and stylish hats were presented for the mothers while the fathers received a homemade jar of dry barbecue rub and a free bowling night out with the kids!  A free photo booth was set-up so both moms and dads can capture the memories with professional level photography!  Of course, both celebrations were capped by aRead More →

Together with the rest of the Christian community, WIN Seattle celebrated its most important holiday of the year – Resurrection Sunday, last Sunday, April 20.  After a joyful time of celebration in song, the children made a heartfelt presentation to bless the congregation – thanks to Sis. Pam for getting them ready for this. The celebration continued with a mini-Cantata put on by the church choir accompanied live by members of the Music Ministry.  Sis. Rosemarie’s efforts in preparing the choir  were well appreciated and the congregation was blessed. Pastor Vino preached the word soon afterwards and related it to the songs. The celebrations concludedRead More →

On Saturday, March 15, the community of Word International Ministries in Seattle put together a dinner dance fund raiser, dubbed Rhythm of the Night –  Dance to Heal, to benefit the rebuilding efforts in the Tacloban, Leyte outskirts.   Most everyone by now has heard of the devastation that typhoon Haiyan brought upon the Central region of the Philippines back in November.  Much of the news focused on the rescue and disaster relief efforts given by the international community.  But after 4 months, news of the disaster has all but disappeared from most of the world’s radar, even as the people of Leyte are justRead More →

Love was in the air as the Couples from WIN-Seattle/Tacoma celebrated marriage last Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Center. The food and games were a sure way to warm things up on that rainy afternoon. Bro. Joe and Sis. Maria Velasquez prepared marriage-themed games and gave away prizes to winners and participants. A light snack (merienda cena) was enjoyed by everyone. Pastor Vino and Sis. Maica Atienza tag-teamed in opening the topic about Passion, Intimacy and Commitment as ingredients to Love in Marriage. The materials for discussion were gathered from “The Love Doctors”, Dr. Les and Leslie Parrott, founders of the Center for RelationshipRead More →

“Hearts in Worship, Hands at Work” 14th Anniversary Theme of WIN-Seattle/Tacoma Our community celebrated its 14th anniversary on the last week of October. This celebration of God’s favor and faithfulness involved a collection of activities that both counted the previous year’s gains and prepared the leaders and workers for the coming church year. We started the celebration by going on a retreat entitled “Unplugged” on October 18-19, 2013 at Lakeview Christian Retreat Center in Auburn, WA  . The lakeside venue was ideal for reconnecting and recharging. Their prayer times were guided by “The Circle Maker – Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears”, aRead More →
